now again becoming now again (2022)

A collaboration directed and choreographed by Chrissy Martin with performers Quinn Coolidge, Sheena Kuhn, Ashley Shey, and Shira Zaid, and sound artist Finley Janes inspired a sensory feast of live video projection, electronic music, spoken word, and dance to the Smith College stage in February 2022.

Collaborators fell with wild abandon, gestured with powerful and absurd clarity, and moved through a kaleidoscopic, interconnected sequence of floorwork, inviting witnesses to become entranced within a world of emergent becoming.

now again becoming now again calls into question how community is built, when and where desire and personal freedom affect those around us, and how experimental performance allows our most vital humanity to emerge.

“To launch oneself into a process of becoming (which is always an unbecoming—precisely because our bodies never stay in one place) is an interesting conundrum. Taken seriously, it can expand our definition of will as domination into a notion of will as a willingness to submit to an experience, the outcome of which is unknown.” -Ann Cooper Albright
